The Best Alternative to Splitboards and Snowshoes

The big bonus of DRIFT Boards is the freedom to choose any board you want, plus the minimal weight on your feet during the ascent. Decide for yourself, based on the conditions, which snowboard to take with you to the summit. The descent with a normal powder board and binding setup is much more enjoyable and lively compared to a splitboard setup. In poor snow conditions, you can even take an older board from your quiver, thus preserving your best gear.

They’re used similarly to a splitboard: strap in and start walking, with the hinge in the front binding allowing you to pull across the snow as you walk forward. The pronounced upward curve of the nose and the slight camber are ideal for this. The streamlined yet highly efficient binding design—featuring a two-stage climbing aid (!)—along with the short length of the DRIFT boards offers a significant weight advantage over a splitboard. During the ascent, you’ll feel significantly less weight on your feet, which makes reaching the summit much less tiring. Sure, you have to attach your snowboard to your backpack for the ascent. However, 1 kg on your feet is roughly equivalent to 6 kg on your back. Weight on your back tires your body 6 times less than weight on your feet. This calculation clearly favors DRIFT Boards.

Once you reach the top, simply remove your snowboard from your backpack and attach the DRIFT Boards to it. The tedious process of putting on and taking off skins and mounting bindings is completely eliminated here. No extra work, no cold fingers! This makes several short ascents with descents in between a breeze, opening up the terrain to you in a whole new way. Once you’ve successfully assembled your splitboard at the summit, you’ll hardly want to put your skins back on after a 100-meter descent just to climb another ridge...

The skins on the DRIFT Boards are permanently glued on. If you ever want to replace or renew them, that’s also no problem at all. Crampons for icy sections are available! The universal binding is length-adjustable and works with all snowboard boots. You can even strap in winter boots, so nothing stands in the way of a snow hike without a descent.
